We had a plan, took days packing and organising, and yet it still felt like we winged it. Instead of a tried and tested place, we opted for one we knew a few things about. What a mistake 🤣🤣🤣

We did know this place was notorious for fire pits and litter sadly, This is NOT the wild campers way at all, we Leave No Trace (LNT) so we were prepared for that a bit, however it was far more than I ever expected. Literally every flat surface suitable for a tent had a massive fire ring.

We even saw a skip of litter, in the peak district. It’s so bad here you need a skip?? That blew my mind! It doesn’t help that it’s so close to the road either. (No one ever had said on their youtube videos How LOUD that road was!!) So it makes it hugely accessible to people who don’t wild camp, to drink and have fires. Fires I could cope with just about but litter….

We found the whole area boggy and muddy, and not just from the days rain, I feel the ground is wet year round in these places.

We planned to stay, but it got wetter and wetter, muddier and the tent we had was wrong for such weather. I made an epic mistake not bringing a chair, so the hip could never fully rest. So begrudgingly we made the decision to go home. It was a lovely place but so many things spoilt it, rubbish, roads and mud. I think I need drier days and better off walking further to be more secluded, like last year’s kinder woods wild camp we did. And the better tent too! Oh well better luck next time.
