Technically it’s 57 weeks post op, not 52 weeks. But hospitals are busy and this is as close as I could get. So I finally get to see him, but what on earth do I say?

Kinda nervous at what he’s going to think or do about the insoles and leg length discrepancy. I hope I’m not fobbed off. But honestly not sure what can be done now at this point except shoe lifts?? It’s not like I’m awaiting another hip surgery to even the lengths up. With winter coming it’s easy to see how to use them in boots and trainers, but not sure how you use them in nice sandals or beachy shoes??

I’d love to know what’s causing the constant thigh swelling as well, always flaring up as I lift the leg upwards to make a step upwards. Pain not as bad as before the steroid injection, however it could be because I’m simply not using it in certain circumstances. If I do the assigned hip bridges I’m guaranteed days and days of intense pain and huge swelling.

Up early to get there, and because I was an early appointment I was straight through. But…. It was my consultant, it was a Registrar. Kinda gutted as this was an important appointment for me. We discussed what has been going on. He looked and measured x-rays, and while they look like barely 1cm difference, he measured outside the body (and boy touching the boney parts of the hip bones hurt!!) and acknowledged it’s 1inch at least.

Before photo, before hip replacements but after 1 triple pelvic osteotomy and 2 femoral osteotomies. After photo is from Jan 2022 and after both hip replacements.

As you can see their measurements internally may not be too different, however the lateral pelvic twist I have is far greater. After a lot of discussing with McB my consultant, it’s decided I need a CT Scan to have the most accurate measurement. So I have to wait for an appointment for that. We discussed the immense back pain and both surgeons agreed I should try the insoles full time to try and relieve the back.

We also got to discuss the ‘weakness’ in lifting the leg and the pain, as the steroid injection worked it shows it was the tendon that is inflamed, and needs longer to get stronger and settled. So stick to some targeted physio as best as I can.
