After being relatively painfree for 15 Weeks, I’m now getting pains, sharp, sudden, stinging pains. I haven’t changed anything, except the last week I struggled to wear the Splint in this heat.

So I’d been taking it off more, to air the hand out. The skin is feeling less numb too, which is great overall, but is that now why it’s more sensitive? Could it be scar tissue? Or where swelling has lessened , so not much cushioning anymore?
Thankfully after begging and pleading I do have an appointment on the 28th June so I hope the Surgeon can x-ray it and put my mind at ease. Because I can’t lie, it’s unnerving having pain out of the blue.
What Are the Risks of Joint Fusion Surgery?
In general, doctors believe this procedure is safe. Most people do well after having it, and complications are rare. Still, you could experience:
- Broken hardware
- Painful scar tissue
- Arthritis in nearby joints
- Infection
- Bleeding
- Blood clots
- Nerve damage
Smokers are also at risk for a condition doctors call pseudoarthrosis. This means that not enough bone is able to form for the joint to fully fuse. If so, you may end up needing a second surgery.
Thankfully I’m not a smoker, but I do have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and I’ve had a very delayed bone healing before in my pelvis and hips, so it could be like that.
