As it’s clearly Autumn here and I have my Samhain/Halloween things around me (most are everyday items I confess) we’ve been watching spooky, scary, horror, witchy films.

UNWELCOME

A couple escape their urban nightmare to the tranquility of rural Ireland, only to hear stories of mysterious creatures who live in the gnarled, ancient woods at the foot of their garden. As warned by their new neighbors, the creatures come when called to help souls in dire need of rescue, but it’s crucial to remember that there’s always a dear price to pay for their aid.

We really enjoyed this, especially as it gives you a bit of Irish folklore, the Far Darrig fae.

LITTLE BONE LODGE

Set during a vicious storm, two criminal brothers on the run seek refuge in a desolate farmhouse. Taking the resident family captive, they find the house holds dark secrets of its own.

Omg the twists and turns I didn’t see coming, excellent film that kept us on our toes.

OLDER GODS

A psychological horror of Lovecraftian proportions that follows a man’s descent into madness as he tries to investigate an apocalyptic cult that caused the death of his friend.

Not the best, but it clearly was a small budget, the plot was the best, and with a bigger budget it would be amazing. But we watched it all and it was a good evening.

COBWEB

Young Peter is plagued by a mysterious, constant noise from inside his bedroom wall — a tapping that his parents insist is in his imagination. As his fear intensifies, he starts to believe that his parents are hiding a terrible and dangerous secret.

Probably the scariest of all these films, and it was highly enjoyable. A good twist in the plot too.
