DEATH ON BOARD by Pauline Rowson
DISCOVER A SERIES OF CAPTIVATING HISTORICAL MYSTERIES FILLED WITH TWISTS FROM BESTSELLING AUTHOR PAULINE ROWSON.

Meet Inspector Alun Ryga of Scotland Yard’s Murder Squad. Having survived WW2 in a prisoner of war camp, he’s vowed to get justice for those who need it.

1951.

Inspector Alun Ryga surveys the wreckage of the elegant Harley Street drawing room.

It’s the home of retired dermatologist Sir Bernard Crompton, who’s currently sailing his new yacht down the British coast from Scotland — or so he was . . .

Sir Bernard is found dead on board his boat off the coast of Cornwall.

The doctor declares he died of natural causes. But why was he wearing a dinner suit with five rocks in his pocket?

Ryga heads to Cornwall to investigate, but the case takes a deadly turn when another body is found in a nearby cove with a gunshot wound to the face. The victim is also wearing a dinner suit with rocks in his pocket . . .

Fans of Elly Griffiths, Laura Wilson, Anthony Horowitz, Robert Harris, Philip Kerr, Frederick Forsyth and Keith Finney will devour this series of enthralling historical crime mysteries set in 1950s England — a time of rationing and recovery from the struggles of the Second World War.

MEET INSPECTOR ALUN RYGA
Alun Ryga is ex-Merchant Navy and a former prisoner of war. His experience has made him observant, analytical and reflective. It has also given him insights into his fellow man. He’s witnessed compassion, cruelty, cowardice, heroism, mental breakdown and despair. He’s made a promise to himself that whatever happens after the war he’ll keep an open mind and never judge. His experiences have made him unique in his approach to solving coastal-based crimes — of which there are many!

THE SETTING
The south coast of England has over 400 miles of stunning coastline. From chalky white cliffs and sandy beaches to shingle bays and national parks, the beauty is endless. But there’s a darker side to
post-war Britain. Housing shortages and rationed goods mean many people are still living rough, and some turn to crime to survive . . .

PAULINE ROWSON
Adventure, mystery and heroes have always fascinated and thrilled Pauline, that and her love of the sea has led her to create her exciting and gripping range of crime novels.
Born and raised in the coastal city of Portsmouth in the UK, Pauline Rowson draws her inspiration for her crime novels from the area. When she isn’t writing (which isn’t often) she can be found walking the coastal paths on the Isle of Wight and around Langstone and Chichester Harbours looking for a good place to put a body!
Pauline is the author of twenty-four crime novels — sixteen featuring the rugged and flawed Portsmouth detective, Inspector Andy Horton; four in the mystery thriller series featuring Art Marvik, the troubled former Royal Marine Commando now an undercover investigator for the UK’s National Intelligence Marine Squad (NIMS); two standalone thrillers, the award-winning In Cold Daylight and In For the Kill, and the 1950 set mystery series featuring Scotland Yard detective, Inspector Alun Ryga, who makes his debut in Death in the Cove with his second investigation Death in the Harbour.
Her crime novels have been highly acclaimed in the UK, USA and Commonwealth and they have been translated into several languages. Multi-layered, fast-paced, and compelling, they are full of twists and turns and are played out against the dramatic and powerfully evocative British marine landscape of the south coast of England.
Pauline is a member of the Crime Writers’ Association and the Society of Authors. Before becoming a full-time writer, she was a renowned marketing and training guru, with a collection of ‘how to’ business books and a successful marketing, media and training career behind her.

My Review Ryga is a fair, well rounded man, easy going and astute. The war has shaped him, and it’s set in a time a few years after the war. So it paints a time I only know from books, it’s beautifully done.  Ryga thinks the Physicians death isn’t simply natural causes, there is more to discover. Others are happy to shrug it off to old age, but when another happens things aren’t so easily explained. Found this a pleasant read, the timing of the plot isn’t one I would traditionally pick up. But it felt nicely done, and I’m happy it came my way. One I’ll be recommending to my mum as I know she will love it.
