We joked that we would see the grey lady who haunts the Manor at Hengar.

Little realising we would definitely hear a few bumps in the night 😱 we sat down to watch a film and we heard three loud bangs from the kitchen, which is tiny with no door. Can’t lie proper scared us too.

We also had someone or something rattle and try to get into the actual room. The outdoor door too!!

Thankfully it has three bolts and locks on it, but it did scare us. All of these happened around 11pm at night, so we hadn’t been asleep. Mundane thinking it could have been passerbys but we did look outside and couldn’t see a soul.

The following morning, while drinking our coffees in separate rooms, I’m in the front room watching tv, Mr Moon in the bed. Our connecting door opened completely by itself. I was completely baffled by it. We tried to walk around to replicate it opening itself without success. I have no idea how it opened.

The say the veil is thinest in October, so perhaps it’s no wonder we have had some spooky goings on. As long as she let’s us sleep, I guess I don’t mind her visits.

Scrap that!! Heard the three loud bangs again at 11.40pm it’s too scary 👻👻👻👻👻😱😱😱 so that’s Monday, Tuesday and now  Wednesday night, always same time and 3 bangs.

As with all old houses Hengar has its share of ghost stories.

The grey lady is said to walk through the restaurant area and onto the landing. She is thought to have lived before the time of the fire. When the house was rebuilt the floor level was raised and so she is only visible from the knees up!

At the turn of the century there was a cholera epidemic locally and one of the kitchen maids is said to have nursed the poor unfortunate victims of St.Tudy until eventually she too succumbed to the disease and died. Her ghost is believed to walk around the cellar which leads from what are now the public toilets but used to be the servants entrance. She was such a pious soul that she will only show herself when there is a woman alone in the house.

The small room on the right just before entering the restaurant is also reputed to have a visitor. Members of staff have reported catching a glimpse of an elderly gentleman sitting smoking a pipe. Upon trying to get a closer look he always disappears. However, a particularly psychic lady did once paint a picture of him sitting in a high button backed chair and wearing Dickensian clothes. Unfortunately this picture was later stolen.
