Well its now a little over a week since I spoke to my brand new Gp (as we had moved) and got a steroid injection in the right knee. And you may ask what does this have to do with hips, well to put it mildly, EVERYTHING. As I’ve found if 1 joint is slightly out, or injured it plays heavily into my hips, lower back and really flares them up.

It had started to really feel grinding, and painful with some of the smallest movements, I’d rest, then try walking again and it would flare up again. Yet both physio and Gp say to walk. So I asked for a steroid, and Holy moly he did it there and then. So fast.

Usually I have to speak to Micats or an actual surgeon to get them for Hips or Hands, but it seems common practice that GPS do knee ones  at the Doctors. Thats definitely helpful.

First off I got the local anesthetic to numb it and had to wait 5 to 10mins. Then called in, and it was done in mere minutes. Pretty painless too, unlike thumb ones!! And some hip ones.

1st Night and 1st Day after a couple of hours after injection, the upper thigh swelled up, and pain kicked in, so walking was a hobble. But I took an ice pack to bed, and slept with that. Didn’t sleep much, but I had to be up early anyways for my #Sbs event in Birmingham. Was nervous going to bed thinking it may be still swollen in the morning. However when I woke up, most of the extra swelling had gone down, still got the usual swelling. But best of all 80% of the pain has gone. But let’s see how it deals with walking from a train station twice today. Used ice and ibuprofen gel repeatedly.

2nd Day its tender but considering I was sitting in a hard chair at that business meet up yesterday, and walking to train stations, its not as bad as I expected. I’m icing when I’m sat down doing cross stitch or reading.

Right knee is the affected knee. My legs are large anyways from lipedema, but right knee bigger

Still more swollen than other knee but not as much as before, So thats a plus. Plan today is to barely move. I used normal pain meds and for knee specifically I used ibuprofen gel and ice.

Day 3 Feeling more spritely today, I get a slight twinge if I move dynamically, but walking straight ahead is better, the pain isnt all consuming which it has been for weeks. Makes me want to test it on the walking pad, however I wont as I know its my stupid brain trying to sabotage me. So gentle house tidying and chores only today. Managed the day without icing or gel, so that’s an improvement.

Day 4 I didn’t really do much, we had family around to visit, a few twinges occasionally but overall pain free, so no ice or gel used all day and night.

Day 5 We have to go food shopping today, so that will be my walking test for the knee today. Well that was worse than I expected. All day I’ve felt like I’m exhausted, a bit woolly headed and dizzy. But I managed to go food shopping, but I was in pain and waddling a lot. So soon put the knee heat and massager on once home to settle the pain. I hope the steroid does actually work, they say it can take up to a month to really work, so not losing hope yet.

Day 6 what a day, had the dentist, felt traumatised there, and then got bank scammed. I need to curl into a hole!! Thankfully bank sorted out and card cancelled and new on its way. But I did managed some walk on the walking pad, knee held up ok.

Day 7 Knee feels great today, emotions are better after yesterday, but I totally just plan a quiet day reading and staying in all day today. I dont want to push the knee too soon or too quickly.
