HAKUNA MATATA

It starts with a body in a burned out car.

Jan Norge, recently transferred from Norway hits the ground running with his first case on UK soil.
The body in the car is just the start of a journey to hell and back.

As Jan and Hilda dig deeper into the cause of the burned out car, they find themselves drawn into a world of secrets, lies and murder.

Everything leads back to one family. On the surface, the Hunts are a normal, middle-class unit, but they’re anything but. All of them are keeping secrets from the others, and when these secrets turn deadly, Jan and Hilda run out of places to look.

In a case that has its roots on the paradise island of Zanzibar, Jan Norge and Hilda Baker have to disregard everything they believed about human nature in order to beat the most dysfunctional family either of them have ever come across.

After reading English at 3 Universities and graduating from none of them, I set off travelling around the world with my wife, Ann, finally settling in South Africa, where we still live.
In 2014 Ann dropped a rather large speaker on my head and I came up with the idea for a detective series. DS Jason Smith was born. Smith, the first in the series was finished a few months later.
3 years and 8 DS Smith books later, Joffe Books wondered if I would be interested in working with them. As a self-published author, I agreed. However, we decided on a new series – the DC Harriet Taylor: Cornwall series.
The Beekeeper was published and soon hit the number one spot in Australia. The second in the series, The Perfect Murder did just as well.
I continued to self-publish the Smith series and Unworthy hit the shelves in 2018 with amazing results.  I therefore made the decision to self-publish The Backpacker which is book 3 in the Detective Harriet Taylor series which was published in July 2018.
After The Backpacker I had an idea for a totally new start to a series – a collaboration between the Smith and Harriet thrillers and The Enigma was born. It brought together the broody, enigmatic Jason Smith and the more level-headed Harriet Taylor.
The Miranda trilogy is something totally different. A psychological thriller trilogy. It is a real departure from anything else I’ve written before.
The Detective Jason Smith series continues to grow. I also have another series featuring an Irish detective who relocated to Guernsey, the Detective Liam O’Reilly series. There are also 3 stand alone novels.

My Review Whoa its so different, I have gotten so used to Jason Smith and his ways, it felt odd starting a Stewart Giles book and he’s not in it. Though that said it was exciting to have new characters, new plot and character development to dive into and get lost in new adventures. We start on the Hunts family holiday in Zanibar, bit by bit family secrets are spilled, and all on this decadent island. The family arent well connected, the Dad is drinking, the Mum is tense, the Daughter wondering is this how the holiday will be, not what she had planned. This is written as a before and after style,something I’ve not really experienced before, but really enjoyed this way of reading. It didn’t feel like we jumped around, which I was fearful of. Full of intrigue and it was a tense page turner too!! I’m definitely going to love these characters.
