My first appointment was way back in April, and we decided to adhere to the surgeons wishes to refrain from a shoe lift until I went passed my 1year post hip anniversary. Well we are passed it now, and although I’ve not managed to see Surgeon yet, podiatry are keen to get the ball rolling.
First things first we start off by discussing the lower back pain I experience, and how I feel. Then it’s onto the bed to get measured again. Last measurements were 3.5cm. Out cones the measuring tape and it seems it’s 2.5cm difference now. Which would mean I’m allowed to try in the insoles and not a built up shoe.

As I can try insoles, the podiatrist said they have them there to take home immediately. I thought they had to make them up. We plan to start off with hardsole shoe lifts measuring 1.5cm for the everyday shoes like my trainers, first removing the insoles that they come with the create space.

This enormous one is 2.5cm and is meant for my walking boots, to be the true lift I need, but I have to get used to 1.5cm first. They say it takes 6 weeks to truly adjust to the new position your body is in, so I’m expecting new pains and stamina weakness for the time being. When walking I will just do an hour or so at first with the largest lift in the walking boots, then go down to the 1.5cm.
Absolutely crushed that any of this is needed, and has been added onto my already broken body, it’s just another thing wrong with me. But I do hope that as it’s inside my shoes, I will eventually get used to it, and at least it’s not outwardly visual which would destroy my confidence even more.

I see them again to see how I’m getting on in 10 weeks time, by then the hips and back should be used to the new height and length. We live in hope the back pain will get better.
