Omg!! Today’s the day I get the cast removed!! Finally. Excited, anxious, apprehensive. All the feelings all at once.

The last week it’s got harder to keep dry and clean, due to doing more physio and yoga, warmer weather and just general living, making you sweat more. So it couldn’t come soon enough this day.

Learnt new skills with my index and middle finger too, completely bypassing the thumb, so that’s good to know while thumb needs to gain strength.

Cast removal was an experience!! Didn’t hurt exactly but the vibrations from it vibrated the metal a bit. Holy christ it is dry skin!! I’m a reptile.

New x-rays taken, bone not quite healed so nearly ended up with a cast back on!! Narrowly escaped with a heated moulded half splint which I need to wear 90% of the time for a week. Back next week for a new visit with consultant.

Metal is aiming to stay in unless there is a serious reason to remove. So I’m pleased with that. Means I can just recover and do physio knowing it doesn’t need to be reopened.

Hi! On a scale of 1-10 how stiff was your thumb upon cast removal? I’m due to go back to work on week 6 (currently on wk 5) I’m worried about this. I work in a primary school reception class. I’m exii pop eating it to be extremely stiff with very little movement.

It was extremely stiff at first but by the next day it had freed up loads, I went camping which was quite handsy. But I did wear a splint/brace to protect it a little while in activity.
