Whoa that week from cast off to today has flown by, what a week! I desperately need an appointment for my right cmc joint. I need a steroid injection, but as my lady has left, it’s a new specialist. But I was told it was 17th April, but the actual appointment is 17th May, bloody hell. More waiting!! So I turned up, only to be turned away. Damn it. Annoyed I was booted from the main referral and need to jump through hoops again to get treatment.

On Wednesday it was back to hospital to see if the bone has fluffed up and grown? As last week I narrowly escaped being re casted. Pain rewakened once the cast came off, but I expected that. I’ve worked hard on physio in warm water, to ease off the stiffness, and massaged the scar to break up scar tissue. Wrist feels the weakest, and the most stiff. So i hope can see some bone change.

The first bath with no cast, HEAVEN. The water, the warmth and freedom. I managed to wash myself with both hands!! And dry myself too. Impressive. Highly recommended. The sensitivity of the thumb is crazy, it feels everything so weirdly, so extra. My aim is to try and desensitise it, I’m trying to keep touching different textures to get used to things again.

ZERO change in x-ray, so the plan is more splint wearing for 4 to 5 weeks, with some thumb exercises, I had been doing anyways but more stretching. Splint wasn’t updated but I did get a repair kit, extra straps, pink edging, and velcro to replace as needed. Felt nice to know I’m doing what is needed already, and they are happy with that progress.

I can just about touch the third finger for the briefest second, so the plan and aim is to do more, maybe get to pinky finger (🤪) and slide thumb tip down the fingers. Asked about the other hand, and as her waiting list is small if she put me on it, I’d be called up within a month. So better to leave it until left hand is splint free and strong. She did say she might remove the plate, have more x-rays and a CT scan before she makes a decision. I’m allowed to take my Etoricoxib tablets but I’m hesitant as it will hinder bone growth, so maybe waiting another 5 weeks won’t hurt, I’ve done 7 weeks already.
