Jan heralds lots of hospital appointments, so now Christmas is over with, it’s time to get the Hip sorted as best as I can. Starting with the Steroid injection.

I’m 124 Weeks since my Hip Replacement, and honestly it’s never truly felt right, it has this persistent inflammation and weakness. I’ve had a Psoas injection before and I truly thought it hadn’t really worked, but looking back over the blog, it clearly did. (Highly recommend keeping a note, journal or blog for this very reason, you can actually see the progress or decline) Not 100% pain free but I was able to work out more and use the leg better. So I’m aiming for that again.
Over Twixmas (that weird time between Christmas and New Year) I really pulled the hip flexor in this left hip. It’s been so swollen, and painful. We also got a lovely bout of Norovirus which no doubt didn’t help with pulling the psoas too. Relieved it didn’t stay too long, as it honestly feels like we’ve been ill most of December.

On the 1st Jan we started 30 Days with Adriene, again as we did last January. This month it’s called FLOW. So I hope I can at least continue this even though I’m having the psoas injected on 2nd Jan. As the yoga is gentle enough to do. Find it here Yoga Flow

On the 2nd Jan we were up at the crack of dawn for this appointment. At least it meant it’s over and done with quickly, leaving you the whole day to rest up, as that’s what they recommend at first.
I had a diagnostic ultrasound first to confirm the psoas is inflamed and to check I don’t have a hernia, as it also hurts when I cough or sneeze. I don’t have one, it’s purely psoas, but it was nice to confirm that.
I had to lie down, have the gel and ultrasound, once confirmed it was go time for Kenalog cortisone steroid injection, they spray numbing stuff on first, then go in. You can feel a little funny afterwards so once it’s over (it’s fast), you get a plaster over the area, and you have to get up slowly, and sit in waiting room for a few minutes to be sure.

Now for the compulsory 24hrs to 72 hrs resting, well minus yoga session which is gentle. Good job I have an excellent book to start reading. It’s a new author to be and I was luckily given it for a review. Can’t wait to start it.
