Can you believe it’s 2 weeks already? So far I’ve been Bandage free since Day 6, and I’ve been using the soft black splint, and dressings to keep it covered and protected.
See here, this explains I had a EPL Tenolysis (tendon release) and MCP fusion metal work removed.
So please understand my recovery will be different to yours, especially as this was minor compared to the basal thumb surgeries.
Day 8 I’m now officially back to my pre operation pain relief routine, so that’s been good. I wear the splint especially at night for extra security, but remove during the day to do the hand therapy exercises.

For now the exercises are, Touch thumb to each finger tip x 10 reps
Then we have Slide thumb down the length of finger x 10 reps
Lastly my worst one, Hold thumb and Flex the top joint x 10 reps

Day 9 Tried using my walking stick in my hand, but it’s still a little weak. But I can just about manage to hold my cup of coffee, or a low filled kettle. I can use a walking pole which is handy.

Had a gentle hand wash, but nothing dramatic or soaking hand in water, as its not quite ready yet. But I do long for a bath and to wash my hair.
Day 10 I used my walking pole in this hand for the whole day I was out, and because it’s a pole not walking stick, it was more manageable. Wrist ached a bit, but huge improvement. I just had my light dressing on throughout the day, and even slept like that. So i think I will keep the splint off now.

Day 11 + 12 not much happening, its the weekend, so out visiting family and just generally out and about. Trying to desensitise the area, so while it’s protected with a dressing, I’m using a tooth brush to touch over the scar to try and get it used to sensations. It’s no way near as bad as it was, when I first had the original surgery at least.
Day 13 It’s a week since the big bandage has come off, and the thumb is feeling almost normal. Swelling is still in the thumb though, but not the hand as much. I’m sorely tempted to have a bath i know that.

Snipped the stitches out with sterilised scissors, and the relief is immense. No more catching them on the duvet or clothing. Redressed it for while the little stitch holes need to close. But freedom at last.
Day 14 I never would have dreamt I’d be feeling this good at 2 weeks, its almost as if I’ve not had surgery already. Except it aches with the exercises, but when I’m still I don’t notice the thumb or baby it anymore.
