Blurb

In the walled, rotting City where daylight is a just a memory, pickpocket Wellington Thorneycroft drifts through life. The rules are simple: take what you can, feel nothing, and never look too closely at the shadows.
But when a ghostly woman appears—silent, radiant, impossible—everything shifts. Her promise is clear: we’ll escape together. With that, Thorneycroft is thrust into a fever-dream journey that twists through brothels, back alleys, and the outer edges of sanity itself.
Guided by visions and a growing hunger for something beyond the City’s poisoned streets, he begins to question the nature of the prison he calls home… and whether escape is even possible.
Laced with brutality and bleak wonder, Mark Richardson’s The Sun Casts No Shadow is a neo-noir descent into metaphysical horror.
Dark. Gritty. Unforgettable. Enter the City.

*Trigger warnings – this book deals with drug use, violence and sex and sex workers.* Also graphic vulgar speech at times.

Wellington Thorneycroft is content picking pockets, taking Ambrosia, screwing prostitutes, and simply surviving in the hellish, walled City. But everything changes when he spots a spectral woman who wordlessly conveys the message: We’ll escape together. Suddenly, Thorneycroft’s life is turned upside down as he’s pulled along a circuitous path to an unknowable freedom: a path marked by violence, sex, and metaphysical dread.

My Review Wow I was not expecting that language or graphic speech at first so it took me back. Also all characters aren’t really nice or redeemable. However it all fits in with the plot and style of book. Its dark depressing and yet intrigued me and I read in one go! Walled city unrelenting heat, pure misery of people and prospects and yet one mystical woman, a nymph. Will they ever escape and feel the sun on their skin.
